The world-famous Ukrainian cardiac surgeon, Professor Illya M. Yemets, CEO of the Ukrainian Children’s Cardiac Center appealed to the world. His little patients were targeted by Russian missiles on Monday, July 8, in Kyiv.
'Can you imagine that Russian bombing, Russian rockets on July 8, when we had 4 surgeries, mainly on children with congenital heart diseases, and two of them I was operating on. Can you imagine that bombing during my surgery destroyed completely everything? Can you imagine the contamination of the cardiac surgery of a child of 7 months old? Now he is in a very unpredictable condition', the surgeon said.
He urged his colleagues to keep doing everything to stop 'the Russian gorilla' who wants to kill all Ukrainians.
'Unfortunately, my hospital is destroyed. And of course without help, without repairing the hospital, during the next months there could be many many neonatal infants' deaths because it will be impossible to do cardiac surgery in Ukraine', Professor Illya M. Yemets added.
He also believes that only a united world can stop Russian terrorism in Ukraine.
Professor Illya M. Yemets introduced a new Ukrainian technique called the CorDI program, which uses umbilical cord blood to save children with congenital heart disease within the first hours of life.
